Approved during the FY01-02 session, Florida legislators approved a new state license plate commemorating the Red Cross. Recognizing that the Florida Poison Information Network (FPIN) also provides Florida's residence with life saving and cost efficient care, they designated that both these organizations would receive funding through the sale of these license plates. Currently, the Red Cross and the FPIN receive 50% each of net funds received through Florida residents purchasing these plates. Each of Florida's three poison centers are sharing the Network's allocation equally. The new Red Cross license plate was released in June 2002. The Network's Centers will be using the funding received to enhance and expand current poison prevention education and awareness services, geared towards prevention of accidental poisonings.
